The Thiago transfer Saga last two summer's perfectly highlighted United's 'Achilles heel' when it comes to transfer related activities. Red Devil's had supposedly agreed a deal with him nearly dozen times according to the media, then, out of the blue, the talented Spanish international signed for Bayern Munich. No real surprise to United fans like me however, this has been all too familiar a story in recent times.
The truth is that of recent times, the club have not been decisive enough when it comes to getting a 'player in'. This is very frustrating considering the fact that we are no longer the 'first option' for 'overly talented' footballers. The top stars choose our European rivals when given that option because we are not guaranteed the success we used to enjoy anymore.
That is the main reason why it is imperative we quicken the pace of our transfer negotiations. Doing this eliminates all other factors and makes Manchester United the only option for the player who wants to 'move'.
Transfer dealings may involve a lot of factors. We, the fans, understand that but with all the patience we are trying to build it is equally hard to comprehend that our main rivals sign most of the players they are seriously linked to. For a club so successful and big as United that's hard to take.
Let's use Chelsea football club as a typical example. The main difference between us and the 'ruthless Chelsea transfer team' is that they leave no chance for uncertainties when negotiating a deal. They tend to most often complete their deals early and anonymously. By this time last year, Chelsea had already signed two world-class players in Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas even before the start of the 2014 World Cup. Let that sink in, yes they did that.
It is notoriously known that United are very 'stingy' in transfer dealings. No wonder our transfer dealings take a long time. This has cost us a lot in the past and will continue to haunt us if we don't 'change'. Various World-class players that have escaped out of our grips because of this. Quite noticeably Eden Hazard, Moura and Nasri simply because Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City offered them more money respectively. Otamendi and Schneiderlin have expressed their desires to join us this transfer window but it seems we are more interested in bringing their transfer fees down. I just hope we get them.
If we are to move foward and more especially maintain our status as one of Europe's powerhouse then we need act more quickly and decisively.
